People (especially REALTORS®) always ask me what Theme I recommend for WordPress. Today Diane Brooks Tweeted the following:
Well, I shot a quick screencast to show you why I like Genesis, in particular the StudioPress Prose Child Theme (affiliate link); it’s what I’m using here at [RicardoBueno.com]. Here’s the video:
I’m a Genesis fan because they put a lot of thought into their product (it’s a top quality product) and their Support rocks!
If you’re serious about WordPress, you’ll want to check them out (all of their themes are great). And if you’re a Real Estate Agent looking for a theme suitable to you, check out their AgentPress Child Theme (my guess is you’ll love it).
Feature Highlights:
- SEO out of the box: no need to install any additional plugins. Genesis has a built-in SEO Settings panel and each post/page has SEO options enabled for you to optimize your content.
- Point-and-Click Design Controls: using the Prose theme, I can customize font types/size, link colors, post title colors, add a custom head/background without having to hack away at the theme. I just click on the “Design Settings” menu and can change everything from there.
- Featured Slider: if you’re a Real Estate Agent, the AgentPress theme has a great featured slider for displaying property listings on your home page.
- Support: How many times do you get caught up working on something, and you need a little help and it feels like you don’t know where to go? Well, the StudioPress team has an excellent Support Forum so their always there and willing to help.
When I’m looking for a WordPress theme, I want something that’s ready to go and easy to customize. That’s why I like Genesis (that and c’mon, have you seen the StudioPress Team, they rock!). I recommend them day-in and day-out. So if you’re lookin’ for something reliable to beef up your website, check ’em out.

Hi Diane,
Welcome to the site and thanks for taking the time to view it (hope you found it useful). Folks often ask me what theme I recommend so I thought, why not give you all a behind-the-scenes look so-to-speak 🙂
If you join us for #blogchat this evening, I'll see you there. Tonight's discussion is on migrating blogs from Blogger/Typepad > WordPress.
Happy blogging!

Very interesting. I have to admit, I was not familiar with the Genesis Theme. I'm taken with the WOO themes and was thinking about switching to a WOO theme. Now I'll have to check out the Genesis themes.
Ricardo Bueno says
Hi Joanne,
WooThemes has a great product too. In this particular case, I wanted to showcase something unique and that's Genesis' point-and-click design controls. There's a “Design Settings” menu that allows me to control universal fonts, colors, link colors, etc. Furthermore, I can upload a header/background through a simple menu as opposed to logging in via FTP access.
Some people have the technical knowledge to hack away at a theme and get the design they want. Others need a little more direction. The Prose Theme in this case, gives you that sense of direction and simplicity. And THAT is why I love it and recommend it.
Either way you decide to go, let me know if you need any help 🙂

What about Thesis?
Ricardo Bueno says
I'm sure it's a great theme. In this case however, I wanted to share what the Prose back-end looks like. For folks who aren't tech-savvy enough to hack away at a theme, Prose makes it real easy to edit/customize a design your proud of (which is very, very important).

Hey Ricardo,
Great screencast. I'm actually thinking about switching from Thesis to Genesis. Seems like every A-list blogger I know has changed from Thesis to Genesis.
Glad to see that Apple computer! MacBook Pro?
Ricardo Bueno says
Yep, Macbook Pro FTW!
