I was on a marketing panel earlier this week called Real Estate Goes Digital. During our session, we talked briefly about video marketing in real estate and how there’s an opportunity for doing some really great marketing with video.
That got me thinking…
Who’s doing video right?
And what sort of content should you be creating with video?
Well, I like this community video produced by real estate broker Greg Fischer.
But what other sorts of creative ways can you use video to promote your local community?
And that’s when I came across these… A collection of beautifully produced time-lapse videos that do an excellent job of promoting their respective cities.
1. San Diego
WELCOME HOME TIMELAPSE from Michael Shainblum on Vimeo.
2. Chicago
Cityscape Chicago from Eric Hines on Vimeo.
3. San Francisco
4. Los Angeles
Timelapse from Alex Hallajian on Vimeo.
5. New York
Metropolis – A New York City Timelapse from Will Boisture on Vimeo.
What do you think… Would you create a time-lapse video to promote your area?
Or what other ways are you using video to market your listings and your communities?
Gary Magnone (@garyjmag) says
Nice examples! This post comes at a perfect time because I was just fleshing out the video strategy for my upcoming local community site. I think these overview videos give a nice birds-eye view of a city, which is great, but I think there’s a lot of opportunity for doing video that goes deeper into a community’s neighborhoods and categories in a way that’s more compelling than your traditional local news type footage. Am always on the lookout for good examples of this, and I’ll be sure to share mine when they’re ready!

Gary: You’re right, these are more of a nice over-view of what makes the city/area beautiful. I thought they were awesome and spent quite a bit of time looking for more. They’re just so nicely put together and they kept my attention.
Did you see the video I linked to in the post by real estate broker Greg Fischer? I thought that was a great local community one: http://youtu.be/QBbqi9RepPo. Again, very well put together and I love that he brought some of his clients in to talk about his process and the local community as well.
But yes, ultimately, I think there’s an opportunity to do video marketing and do it well!
Teresa Boardman says
Is there any evidence that videos like this help real estate agents win business?
Ricardo Bueno says
Nope. But then, that wasn’t the point. I didn’t say these would make great “conversion videos.” Simply that the one’s listed here do a very nice job of highlighting the overall city. (At least, for me they did). They kept my attention and I watched them through and through.
Teresa Boardman says
They are gorgeous and yes they do show the flavor of the city.
Tim O'Keefe says
Ricardo these are amazing and gorgeous. I do think that it is time and money better spent to go for reality TV more than they should think Scorsese with their video production.
Michael Corley says
These are great community videos but I’m not sure if agents should be wasting time and money producing them.
Perhaps they should peruse Vimeo Nd YouTube for videos they can showcase on their site.
People who view them tend to not finish w arching a time lapse video because of how long they are (avg 3 minutes or more).
Ricardo Bueno says
Granted, they are expensive to produce. But personally, I find them rather engaging. At least, more engaging and interesting than most community videos I’ve seen agents produce. And yes, you can get pretty close using video tools like Animoto. But again, I’d personally watch one of these timelapse videos, repeatedly, from start to finish, than most other community videos I’ve seen.
