I’m taking Chris Brogan’s lead on this one and coming up with 3 words to guide me in the new year. I don’t do new years resolutions. But I do have a sense of what I want to accomplish in the new year. I’ll use these 3 words as my guide for meeting each of those goals:
Create. Manage. Focus.
Create – This year I’m focusing on creating content (webinars, video tutorials, How To’s) to better connect our customers and prospective customers with our products. I already have a few ideas on how to implement this and have started working on it. This year, it’s going to be about being creative in every way possible and creating content that engages our audience.
Manage – My buddy Patrick O’Keefe said it best…
“Community is not a choice. If you provide a product or service, you have a community.” – @iFroggy
I think we have an excellent community but I have to admit, it’s a little scattered. This year, it’ll be about connecting that community and bringing it closer to deliver a better experience. More responsiveness. More connectivity. Better growth, together. And I’m not talking about our community at Diverse Solutions, I’m also talking about the community here at [RicardoBueno.com].
Focus – I have lots of great ideas. Content ideas. Product ideas. Sometimes, I get so carried away and scatter-brained that I lose focus. This year, I’m taking steps on prioritizing my time, getting back to the basics in some areas and focusing on what needs to get done to get me where I need to be. It’s about knowing what my goals are, focusing on those goals and asking myself: “Is this getting me closer to where I need to be?” If it’s not, I could do without it.
Like I said, I don’t do resolutions. I do have an idea of the things that I want to accomplish this year, both personally and professionally. I’m using these three words to guide my actions this year. Not necessarily goals in and of themselves, but rather a set of words to guide what I do and keep me on track.
How About You?
Do you do new years resolutions? What are your goals for the new year? What would your three words for 2011 be?

Hi Ricardo,
I like your idea of 3 words to guide you. I usually pick a theme. For the past two years my theme has been fitness, and I'm happy with the changes I have made in that area. This year my theme is focus, and my mechanism for getting there will be a daily meditation practice.

Hi Barbara,
Fitness is totally on my To Do this year. I just need to focus more, get back to the basics in some areas, and get fit! I was hiking/running on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a few months, then I let myself get busy and scattered and I stopped.
Anyway, congratulations to you and your hard work in that area! I bet it feels great 🙂
Happy New Year and cheers to staying focused in 2011!

This is a good habit to get into. Pick one or more words that you want to focus on for the year in becoming more of their definition.

Thanks Kyle! A long list could look daunting ya know. Writing out a list of words to guide my actions definitely seems like a much better way to guide my actions/To Do's in the new year.
What would your 3 words be?
