I think I’ve been on an infographic kick over the last couple of weeks which brings me to today’s find…
Here’s a neat video from Kelly Lacy hi-lighting some interesting Facebook Stats compiled by the folks at SingleGrain.
In “Content Rules” Ann Handley and C.C. Chapman talk about re-purposing content… I think this is an excellent example of how to do that. Single Grain went from blog post to infographic to motion-infographic (pretty neat if you ask me).
Anyway, here’s the video:

Some Tweetable Stats:
- “The average user creates 90 pieces of content per month.” Tweet This
- “The average user has 130 Friends.” Tweet This
- “The average user spends 23 minutes on each visit to Facebook.” Tweet This
- “50% of local businesses use Facebook for marketing.” – Tweet This

Are you an avid Facebook user? How do you use it – personally or professionally? How would you live without it?
Personally, I have a Facebook Page but I don’t technically consider it an essential part of my marketing (you might). I have well over 130 Facebook Friends but I don’t really know most of them. I certainly don’t spend more than 5 minutes on Facebook per visit let alone 23. And maybe, between my Page, my company’s page and my profile…I might be creating 90 pieces of content per month.
What about you?

I have never liked Facebook. My Facebook is populated with people I used to know (but lost contact with) and relatives. I have always felt weird posting something there. I’m thinking about creating a page for my company though. I’m hoping that that will be different (more like twitter)?

Hi Charlotta,
I don’t know, I’ve always said choose a network that you feel comfortable expressing yourself in and master that network. You don’t need ALL the tools, you just need the right ones (you know, that sorta thing).
For me, I’m on Facebook because everyone else is. But when I look at the content I’m creating, sharing and engaging with… Facebook isn’t really in that mix for me. I’m there because I’m there and so is everyone else but that’s about it.
I have a page, but I don’t post to it much. Versus others whose entire content strategy centers around the page.
I prefer to connect on places like Twitter because that’s where I feel more socially connected. And I prefer to share content and drive interaction here on the blog – not my Facebook page.
That said, I don’t think starting a page is a bad idea for your company. But you have to put some thought and create a content schedule, create an “idea bank” and focus on interacting. Still, focus on finding ways to drive that traffic back to your blog and focus on what you want people to do… What’s the Call To Action?
Ok, enough blabbering about… Thanks for the comment and I hope you have a great day!!

Thanks for great advice: “choose a network that you feel comfortable expressing yourself in and master that network”. So maybe I don’t have to run to Facebook just because “everybody else” are. Interesting. Not many in the social media world are saying that I think.

I say that because I see Real Estate Agents rushing to create a Facebook Page because “everyone else is doing it.” But when I look at these pages, 9 out of 10 of them suck (I’m sorry to say). Less than 50 fans, no content, no engagement.
People fail to realize, building an engaged network takes time an energy just like building a blog does. So if you’re not willing to invest that time an energy, don’t do it.
If you are… Then set some goals and expectations, outline some content, and get to it!

( You reply and create content amazingly fast!) You have just “given me permission” to ignore Facebook for now. One big argument still, I guess, is SEO. Even if it sucks it sucks with some heavy weight links. 🙂

Ah well, there’s lots of people who will debate me on that last part…
Let’s do this, on May 27th, I’m doing a Facebook Webinar with Mike Mueller (whom I consider a Facebook Jedi). It’s free to attend, so come check it out:

We’re talking Profiles, Privacy, and Custom Pages! Come questions packing, and leave with a decision on whether it makes sense for ya 🙂
